Geocache Description:

Should be an easy cache and dash but lots of muggles in the area so be warned hence difficulty rating. This is also a magnetic nano bring a pen or pencil

Garelochhead or Ceann a' Gheàrr-loch is a small village on the Gare Loch in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It lies, as the name suggests, at the head of the Gare loch, the long fjord-like fingers that extend north from the Clyde Estuary into the southern flank of the highlands.

There was virtually nothing here until the advent of the steamer age in the 1820s. Garelochhead initially developed to cater for visiting steamer passengers, with as many as six steamers calling here each day during the summer by 1850.

From this spot you can see the site of the old pier where once these old paddle steamers would have once set sail. though no evidence of the pier remains.(contrary to this i have found there is a plaque marking the spot where there pier once stood by the shore line though i have no info on exactly where this is though the pier was demolished in 1992)
Even todays Garelochhead is dominated by the loch. If you cast your eyes over to the left you will see the vast expanse of HMNB Clyde home of Great Britain’s nuclear submarine fleet.

While Garelochhead, being tucked away in a quiet corner or Argyll and Bute may not get the tourists that nearby Helensburgh may get there are some lovely places nearby which should get the praise it deserves.
While in the area check out our other caches GC4N8YP Garelochhead-The West Highland Line and GC4N9ZK Garelochhead-Isabella Campbell Memorial. Happy Hunting
