Back in 2011, a Rooster appeared on the side of Nokesville Road, greeting commuters and local residents as they drove by. The second year of his life, he began to be painted for the various holidays. The family that placed him didn't realize anyone noticed him, besides their friends that came to visit, until he was stolen in the summer of 2013.
The community members and commuters showed an outpouring of support and were upset about the rooster being gone. A Facebook page was created, community members notified the owners when they saw similar roosters that may have been the stolen guy, and the newspapers even called! Complete strangers in the community contributed funds to replace the rooster and he was replaced, with a friend, a few weeks later.
Once he was replaced, the owners decided that he had to be a geocache location in memory of a hobby they had been heavily involved in prior to moving to the area and taking on the responsibilities of a small farm.
The Rooster posted on it's Facebook page asking if anyone would be interested in creating an interesting cache, and Terri Green stepped up to the plate. She is to thank for being so creative and skilled and creating the great hide that you will now find here. Her websites are shared on the Facebook page as well
NOTE: There IS parking along the side of the road and you can also go past the Roosters to park at the neighboring property (a horse statue is there) or across the street in the community. But PLEASE DO NOT BLOCK THE DRIVEWAY OR COME UP TO THE HOUSE unless you are the FTF. If the driveway get blocked or if cachers continually come on to the property to park or turn around, the cache will be taken down, so please respect the owners.
There are a lot of muggles passing by at all hours of the night as well, but posing for a picture with the Nokesville Road Roosters is a great cover. Be sure to "check in" at the rooster on Facebook and share your picture as well!
Congratulation to BomberNaviGuesser for being the FTF, just a few hours after this was made available. He got himself a dozen fresh, healthy, chicken eggs from the owners. :)
