Geocache Description:

You are looking for a somewhat small sized cache container that celebrates the famed WGA State Park Geocache Series of geocaches. You’ll need to bring your own pen.

In 2013, the WGA (Wisconsin Geocaching Association), working in cooperation with the Wisconsin DNR, began to place a special geocache in all 47 Wisconsin state parks, which are located in every quadrant of the state. In 2014, the 47th and final cache was set in place for this new series. The goal of the series is to provide a quality geocaching experience that promotes the family-friendly activity of geocaching and the adventures that come with exploring the outdoors. Already there are geocachers that have completed the entire series and many that are working on it!

Each cache in the series is typically at least 500 feet from a parking location to encourage exploration of the outdoors (no park and grabs), and usually not more than 75 feet from an established trail when possible, and in areas that will not lead to damage to the ecosystem.

Difficulty and terrain ratings of the 47 caches in the statewide series typically do not exceed 2.5D/2T. The cache containers in the state park series are no smaller than a small cache size (no nanos/micros). One of the intentions for the state park series is for swag to be able to be exchanged and hopefully many people will have the chance to find the state park caches with the lower D/T ratings.

This cache that you are looking for here in Wirth Park is not part of the state park series and is not in one of the state parks; it is merely an introduction to this vast, fun, and ambitious series that reaches every part of our state!

The WGA (Wisconsin Geocaching Association) is a group of fun-loving, outdoor-minded people who like to geocache and want to help others do the same. Some of the many activities of the WGA include hosting statewide geocaching events that draw hundreds of geocachers from all over Wisconsin, working with the DNR to establish statewide geocaching policies, and promoting the “Cache in Trash Out” (CITO) and “Leave No Trace” programs to help in the maintenance of parks and trail systems of Wisconsin.

It’s easy to join the WGA, and membership is free. Just register on their website at http://www.wi-geocaching.com. The WGA website is one of the best resources for geocachers in Wisconsin. It is a great place to find and share information on any aspect of geocaching. Come share, ask questions, download resources, or just socialize with cachers from around the state in their online forums!

For us personally, we have benefitted from joining and participating in the WGA. It has expanded our awareness of geocaching as well as of Wisconsin, and more than ever we look forward to visiting Wisconsin’s state parks!
