Geocache Description:

In 2007 the Central Texas Region won the coveted Golden Ammo Can as the best region in Texas during the annual Texas Challenge Geocaching convention and competition.  We will be hosting the competition in 2014.  This Golden Ammo Can was the prize awarded to the best team.  Please note that the area the cache is placed in is a wildlife preserve and you need a special permit to enter between March 1st and July 31st.

Golden-throated warblers.  Golden Ammo Cans.  The Fort Knox of the warblers is here in  Balcones Canyonland Preserve. Gadget Girl had previously hidden this ammo can in an area that was taken over by development, so she brought it to a Geocaching event  and asked if anyone wanted to rehide it.  I volunteered, because I wanted to return to do other caches nearby.  Between March 1 and July 31 this area can only be accessed if you have a permit to the mating grounds. Otherwise, you have to mate (and cache) somewhere else. Permits are available by taking a class that is well worth your time.  More info here: (visit link)   Cache is slightly off the trail, but no bushwacking is required.
