Beverly Lake, located to the northeast of the town, is the only municipal water supply source for the Town of Labrador City. A pump house located at Beverly Lake is equipped with two electric, 200hp vertical turbine pumps and one emergency diesel pump.
Water is chlorinated at the pumphouse and pumped into a 2270m into a 2270m3 (500 000 Imperial Gallon) reservoir. This reservoir supplies the entire Town’s water distribution network. The Town of Labrador City has a grid distribution network with minimal dead ends which services approximately 3200 households and businesses.
A multi-barrier approach is taken to ensure the delivery of clean, safe drinking water. Starting with the protection of our water shed, uninterrupted chlorination, annual water tower cleaning and a series of quality checks which include daily ph and chlorine residual monitoring, bi-monthly bacteriological analysis and quarterly physical and chemical analysis.
The Town of Labrador City follows the Standards for Bacteriological Quality of Drinking Water as provided by the Provincial Department of Environment and the Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality prepared by Health Canada
