These caches can be done as C&Ds or by taking the S.I.T. by bike or foot or any other manually powered wheels you desire. Gas powered vehicles are not allowed on the trail. If you wish to bike or hike, parking is available at Matapeake Launch overflow parking lot. There is no fee unless you use the pier, launch ramp, or picnic area near the pier. There is no fee to use Matapeake Beach, but it now has a separate entranceway.
At least 2 young men have earned the rank of Eagle Scout by helping QAC Parks on the Island Trails. Chris Z., troop 278, helped make & install the benches & picnic tables along the South Island trail. Mike DY., also from troop 278, replaced all of the ½ mile markers on both the Cross Island & the South Island Trails.
Although I never stop so soon on my exercycles, I thought this was a great place to put a cache. Tiki, the Blue Pterodactyl, checked out the human rest area and approved, but the cache is on a perch that is uncomfortable for her to hang out for any period of time. She likes her space.
