The Texas Spirit Quest
is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have ‘walked’ before us.
There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural communities across Texas. This series will introduce you to many of them. The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries, tombstones and local lore.
There are 438 interments at this site (full name: St. Peter Lutheran Church Cemetery), ranging from 1853 through present. This makes it somewhat older than most TSQ entries in the Central Texas area, which tend to date back to the 1880s. Here have been laid to rest members of a mixture of Anglo, German, and Swedish families, with probably a few rogue Czechs, Poles, and generic Scandinavians mixed in. It may have started as a family cemetery for the Bybees, since those are the earliest burials.
There is no fence or gate at this site, so access is quite easy. The older graves appear to be at the west end. However, you need not mill about on the actual grounds in order to make the find. At any rate, as always, any refinements to the listed coordinates are welcomed.
