"These Too Are Not Forgotten"

3 Woofs' pack leader is the son of the person named on the stone. This Dad was a recipient of the Purple Heart and Silver Star. He did not come home to his son; he was killed in action near Kumhwa, Korea, 24 October 1952. The Silver Star was presented to the son May 7, 2000 on what would have been the soldier's 70th birthday at this memorial. . "While leading his platoon on a bold daylight attack on a strategic position, Pike's Peak, a part of the Triangle Hill complex. By personal example he continued to lead and pressed forward toward the enemy's dug-in and heavily fortified positions until he undoubtedly became identified by his actions as the leader, and became the primary target of the enemy machine gunners. He was killed by a fusillade of machine gun fire which also killed two brave and aggressive soldiers accompanying him. Heavy in coming small arms and motor fire prevented recovery of the dead until the following morning, when the remains and eight other valiant soldiers were retrieved by G Company. The gallantry in action displayed is in keeping with the highest tradition of military service, and reflects great credit on himself, the 32nd Infantry, and the United States Army."
