I was a passenger in a boat trip once on the Rogue river. I did the 104 mile jet boat trip and many of the other boat passengers kept losing their hats! Fortunatly, I was in the front on the starboard side, so I was designated to be the "boat hook", and the retreiver of all the fallen caps.
