Geocache Description:

Founded in 1266 by the Benedictine Order, the abbey fell foul of the local archbishop who, following his declared allegiance to the Cistertians in 1269, banished the Benedictines in 1272 and gifted the premises to the Cistertians.

The abbey was constructed primarily by the same craftsmen who worked on the nearby pile on the hill - the Rock of Cashel. The tower was added 200 years later.

Note the exquisite detail still visible in the roof.

There is a fine pathway from the road to the abbey, and well sign-posted.

The cache is placed on the roadside, and you can park alongside and sit and relax.
