A. Boksburg – Details:
Just a little history lesson about Boksburg where this event is situated. Boksburg was founded on the discovery of gold in this area. A prospector with the name PJ Killian found gold on the farm Leeuwpoort in 1886. The owner Carl Ziervogel then opened a gold mine. Boksburg is named after Eduard Bok who was a former State Secretary of the South African Public. The first stands in Boksburg were offered for sale in 1987. In 1988 coal was also discovered. Boksburg became a municipality in 1903. The first Alien visited Boksburg in February 1899 – sorry just checking if you are still paying attention; scrap the previous sentence. Lol.
B. The location - Details:
A little bit more details on the event location itself. Jannie le Grange and his wife Lettie had a passion for animals and in 1975 they opened this location as a bird park for the public. Today this is a visitor’s park which is visited by foreigners and local people. The collection of birds that can be seen here is Macaws, Cockatoos, Blue Cranes, peacocks, Black Swans, Ducks, geese, Ostriches, Hornbills, and Pheasants just to name a few. In the middle of this park you can sit and enjoy a cup of coffee or enjoy something to eat. The children can burn off their excessive energy in the adjacent playground. This playground is equipped with jungle gyms and swings. All of this while mum and dad can enjoy the birds and do some fantastic birding photography. This is a good location just to sit back and to chill a bit and to enjoy the company of the cachers and to hear the stories.
C. Event - Details:
More details about the event. We only have one agenda. Get the cachers together and let us enjoy the company. Hopefully we will meet with the old hands again. I also would like to meet the new cachers in this area. The rules of the event are very simple – please enjoy the location and relax a bit. If you have some trackables please allow the other cachers to discover them or even help to move them along. I have a few that needs help to get them moving again. If you want then you can forward me the details of all the trackables and I will draft a list to circulate to all attendees of the event. But this is not descriptive and it is up to the individual. It is not a requirement to eat or to drink anything to attend this event. Please indicate the number of children and the number of adults that will attend this event in your log. Also please take note that the event is 1.5 hours in total but it is not a requirement to attend all of this time. If you are in a hurry and you are chasing caches in this area then it will be fine if you pop in for a hello and a goodbye. At least we will have the pleasure to meet with you in person. Please keep an eye on your children - some of the birds can and will bite if they feel threatened. Also if they are playing in the playground please observe them. Hope everybody will enjoy this event. We will release new caches near this location as a bonus on 5 October 2013. More details will be given at the CITO event, hopefully the cachers will find them as team FTF's. Good luck.
