Bei Sitia zweigt die Strasse zum Kloster Faneromeni ab (Wegweiser vorhanden).
Ca. 6 km schlängelt sich die kurvenreichen Strasse bergan, bei der Fahrt kann man den wunderbaren Ausblick auf die Bucht von Mirabello geniessen. Die Legende besagt, dass ein Schafhirte in der Höhle eine Ikone der Jungfrau Maria fand, daher kommt auch der Name des Klosters Faneromeni=Offenbarung.
