Geocache Description:

This event is being held to celebrate International EarthCache Day - part of Earth Science Week.

The event starts at 11:00AM and will end with a free prize draw at 1:00PM on Sunday 13th October 2013.

Each year, the first Sunday of Earth Science Week is celebrated as International EarthCache Day.
It is a time to tell others about how much fun visiting and developing EarthCaches can be.

The theme for this year is “Mapping Our World”and endeavours to engage young people and the public in learning how geoscientists, geographers, and other mapping professionals use maps to represent land formations, natural resource deposits, bodies of water, fault lines, volcanic activity, weather patterns, travel routes, parks, businesses, population distribution, our shared geological heritage, and more.
Such maps help show how the Earth systems – the geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere – all interact.

Attendees at this event will get the chance to identify some common Cornish rocks and see how geological maps in particular are created by developing their very own map - Please bring your GPSr and something to write with! All completed maps will be placed in a free draw for a prize.

There is free parking at the top of Carloggas Downs (near the listed coordinates) although the track up to the top is a little bumpy. Alternatively, you could leave your car at the bottom of the track and walk the rest of the way.
