Les habitants des environs l’ont appris à leurs dépends au début de la guerre 40-45…
« Au matin du 10 mai 1940, des planeurs atterrissent sur les hauteurs du « bois de laine »aussi appelé « Chinois de Laine »entre Chêne et Traimont. Beaucoup de gens ignorant que la guerre venait d’éclater et attirés par toute cette agitation anormale, empruntent à pied ou à bicyclette la route de Traimont pour aller voir ce qui se passait. Dans les bois, ils sont aussitôt stoppés par les soldats allemands déposés par les planeurs. Beaucoup de gens de la commune se retrouveront là, mais pourront sans dommage regagner leur foyer dans le courant de l’après-midi » Extrait de l’anecdote Michel Wavreille issu de son livre « Si la Géronne me racontait »
Or pendant leur détention, un soldat allemand peu scrupuleux et voyant le gain facile ôta en toute discrétion leurs bijoux à plusieurs villageoises. Cachant son petit (mais déjà bien appréciable) butin dans un lieu sur les hauteurs du bois de laine à l’insu de ses compagnons de guerre……..il regagna le camp de base installé dans le village voisin.
Quelques semaines plus tard, le soldat, confiant de ses grandes capacités au combat mais pas insouciant au point de ne pas redouter la mort, envoya une lettre à sa femme lui révélant l’emplacement de son trésor caché………..
Ma chère et tendre, si d’aventure il m’arrivait à la guerre de tomber, sache que les Chinois haut perché pourrons tel le petit poucet te mener, vers le trésor caché.
Cette multi est une nocturne il faut vous munir d’une lampe laissez votre voiture au wp parking et suivez les lumières.

Curiosity killed the cat…
The inhabitants living in the neighbourhood learned this to their cost at the beginning of WWII…
« On the morning of 10th May 1940, gliders land on the heights of « bois de laine », also called « Chinois de Laine », between Chêne and Traimont. Many people, ignoring that the war had just broken out and attracted by this unusual restlessness, take the « route de Traimont » on foot or by bike to go and see what happened. In the woods, they are immediately stopped by German soldiers who were dropped by the gliders. Many people of the town will meet there, but they will be able to return home unscathed in the course of the afternoon. » (Excerpt from Michel Wavreille’s anecdote in his book « Si la Géronne me racontait »).
But during their detention, an unscrupulous German soldier, seeing the easy gain, discreetly stole several villagers’ jewels. After hiding his little (but nevertheless noticeable) loot on the heights of bois de laine without his war companions knowing……he got back to the base camp located in the neighbouring village. A few weeks later, the soldier who trusted in his own great fighting skills but who nevertheless feared death, sent a letter to his wife in which he revealed where his treasure was hidden…
“My dear and beloved, if by any chance I were to fall in war, know that the “Chinois” high perched will, just like Tom Thumb, lead you to the hidden treasure.”
