In 1812 Samuel Maner purchased 2523 acres of land in Screven County and on it built his house and a house of prayer, the precursor to Brick Church. In 1827 the land was owned by the Rev. Peyton L. Wade who married Maner's daughter. The Rev. Wade donated two and three-quarter acres on which to build a Methodist Episcopal Church to be known as Brick Church. The building was, indeed, built of brick and has been in continuous service since completion.
