I saw this challenge while looking for a macro for something else. On further investigation I came up with other challenges of this nature. Since none of the ones I found were in Tennessee I decided to bring one here. Not sure who started the original challenge so I can’t give credit to any one particular person. But for the ones that I have found all of the rules seem to be pretty much the same, so why fix something that is not broke?

Now for the challenge. The cache is at the posted coordinates but you cannot log a find until you have fulfilled all of the requirements of the challenge. There are 118 elements in the periodic table, all with a unique symbol. Your challenge will be to find 115 of the different symbols. Should you find 118 kudos to you!

1. You will base your finds on the GC code of each cache you find. Each cache can only be used once per element although it may apply to two or more elements. You will have to choose which element to apply the code to.

2. The letters of the element symbol must be next to each other and not separated by a number or another letter. Example: If you are going to use Sn (tin) it must be like GC2V35N – not GC1M50N.

3. There are several letters that are not used in the GC codes so here are the substitutions that are to be used in their place:

  1. Use number 0 for the letter O
  2. Use number 1 for the letter I
  3. Use number 5 for the letter S
  4. Use number 7 for the letter L
  5. The letter V may be used for both V and U

4. This final cache CANNOT count towards one of the element finds.

5. Your finds can be located anywhere in the world.

6. You may use any kind of cache type that has a GC code.

7. To log a find on the final cache you must post your finds which are to include the GC code, the element code and the cache name. There are several options you can use for accomplishing this. You can bookmark your finds, make a list and post it, create your own periodic table with the requested info (blank copies can be found on the web), or whatever other method you choose as long as it is readable.

8. If you have any questions please post them or email me.
