This cache is in the beautiful Smith Mountain Lake State Park located in Huddleston, Virginia. The cache has been placed with permission and in compliance with all requirements for placing a geocache in a Virginia State Park. Enjoy!
The cache is accessible by boat or vehicle. To access the area by boat dock at the short-term docking facility located about one hundred yards from the boat launch ramps. Do not dock at the docks at the boat launch area for these are reserved for people launching and removing their boats. For those coming by vehicle, the boat launch parking lot is the closest to the cache. To reduce the chances of encountering ticks stay on the established trails to reach the cache. Take the Whitetail Path Trail, located near the stop sign at the top of the boat launch lot's driveway. The Whitetail Path leads to the Walton Creek Trail. The Walton Creek Path will take you to within a five yards of the cache. For those wishing to take a longer walk park at the Visitor Center and hike the Turkey Foot and Walton Creek Trails to the cache's area. Maps of the park's seventeen miles of hiking trails are available at the Visitor Center and the kiosk near the boat launch.
