Welcome to the Merri Marine Sanctuary 25 hectares encompassing waters around Middle and Merri Islands. Middle and Merri Islands are the remains of an ancient sand dune, built up hundreds of thousands of years ago. This is a Multi Cache. The final GC is located within the sanctuary and you can view your starting point from the cache location.
Please make sure you obey all safety warnings in locating this cache, and carefully ensure cache is hidden and replaced carefully against rock stopper to avoid difficulty for other cachers in reaching.
There is a high level of 'Muggle' activity within the Marine Park so stealth is required. There are plenty of information boards to read with valuable information of the Marine and Bird Life found within the sanctuary.
The Netting Boundary use to indicate where netting could take place prior to the introduction of the Marine Sanctuary. If you look carefully you can see the old Netting Boundary post markers on the islands. The Marine Sanctuary boundary now extends from the footbridge over the Merri River to west of the Breakwater and offshore to a point in line with Thunder Point to the northwest.
