ABOUT THE LOCATION
Chang Phuak Gate, which means White Elephant, was built in 1296. There is a legend that the Chang Phauk Gate was given this name because the North end of the city was seen as the 'head' of the city and the king would enter the city through this gate on state occasions. Apparently, he would do so riding on a white elephant. An albino elephant monument was also built on the north side, and several elephant statues existed until a few years ago. Now, the only remaining elephant statue is located at the small bus station, about 1km to the North.
