The structure before you was built by frustrated locals who were sick of waiting for authorities to do something about crossing the creek during the wet.
With the town on one side of the creek and the aerodrome on the other getting personnel and supplies across the creek when it was flooded was quite a problem. After several requests for help local Bill Pearce took matters into his own hands and erected the flying fox complete with a wire basket. The nearby bridge was constructed in 1946 when the army and air force were based at the aerodrome.

If you continue up the track you are on you will find a forgotten cemetery from Daly Waters history.
