Am 12. Dezember 2012 strandete an der Südküste von Kreta, in der Nähe von Rodakino, ein mit Schmuggelzigaretten beladener moldawischer Frachter. Obwohl die Schmuggler einigen Aufwand betrieben hatten - eine Straße und ein kleiner Naturhafen wurden eigens ausgebaut - ging die ganze Sache schon beim ersten Versuch grandios in die Hose: Beim Anlegen kam die Ankerketter in die Schiffsschraube woraufhin das Ruder zerbröselte und das Schiff, nun manövrierunfähig, auf Grund lief.
An Bord waren geschätzte 400000 Zigarettenschachteln, die in der Folgezeit an weiten Teilen der Südküste angespült wurden. Heute ist vom Schiff nicht mehr allzuviel übrig aber der Platz ist in jedem Fall immer noch eine Dose wert!

On December 12th 2012, a smugglers ship full of cigarettes ran ashore on the southcoast of Crete, close to the village Rodakino.
Although the smugglers put quite some effort in the operation - a gravel road and a small harbour were builded - the whole thing went wrong already in the first attempt. The ship was carrying about 400.000 cigarettes packages which could be found all along the southcoast in the weeks after the accident.
There is not much left of the ship nowadays but the spot is surely still worth a visit and a cache!
