Geocache Description:

You are looking for a 500ml Snap & Lock container, with a logbook, pen, pencil, teapot, and various swaps inside.

This little known and visited historic site is just off the Murray Valley Highway, 23km SE of Swan Hill & 7km SE of Lake Boga.

The ill-fated Burke & Wills expedition camped at this site on Wednesday September 5, 1860, 16 days after leaving Melbourne on their way to the Gulf of Carpentaria, to open up a road from south to north across Australia.

This is camp-site No.14. The previous night thay had camped at Reedy Lake ( just north of Kerang), then they arrived at this spot between Lake Tutchiwap and Lake Boga. That day they had travelled 18 miles.

This camp-site is on an ancient flood-way of the Avoca River and at the time of the expedition in 1860 was a green belt of box trees and other native shrubs, making it an ideal sheltered camping site.

Next day they decamped and moved on to Swan Hill and camped near the well known attraction "The Burke & Wills Tree." a huge Moreton Bay Fig tree in Curlewis Street.

Enjoy the cache and the history lesson.
