Geocache Description:

Photo in a Flash - Monkey Day

Monkey Day is an unofficial holiday celebrated internationally on December 14. Who knew??? So in honor of Monkey Phat and his primate themed caches, I thought it would be fun to be this months flash mob (which will now be know as "Photo in a Flash") Its even on a weekend, so I hope he can attend.

Meet at the coordinates (main entrance of the Kansas City Zoo) at 9am for our typical Photo in a Flash. If you'd like, stick around and check out the primates hanging around this place - chimpanzees, gorillas, baboons, tamarins, macaques, orangutans, gibbons and more. I think they open at 9:30am, rain or shine. Also, don't forget to try Woodland Clan's zoo themed caches around Swope Park - its a fun little series with a cute curious monkey as the main character.

A monkey is a primate of the Haplorrhini suborder and simian infraorder, either an Old World monkey or a New World monkey, but excluding apes and humans. There are about 260 known living species of monkey. Many are arboreal, although there are species that live primarily on the ground, such as baboons. Monkeys are generally considered to be intelligent. Unlike apes, monkeys usually have tails.

Monkeys range in size from the pygmy marmoset, which can be as small as 4.6" with a 6.8" tail and just over 3.5 oz in weight, to the male mandrill, almost 3.3' long and weighing up to 79 lb. Some are arboreal (living in trees) while others live on the savanna; diets differ among the various species but may contain any of the following: fruit, leaves, seeds, nuts, flowers, eggs and small animals (including insects and spiders).
