Since 1840s until 1900s the Prime meridian of Russian geodesy was the meridian passing through the center of Round hall of the Pulkovo observatory. Pulkovo meridian is 30°19′34″ to the East from Greenwich meridian. The Smaller basis is two points on Earth with precisely calculated coordinates. This coordinates are to be transferred to another reference points of state geodetic network. The cache is located close to point "B" of the Smaller basis - granite monument nearby.

С 1840-х годов и до начала ХХ века Пулковский меридиан, проходящий через центр Круглого зала Пулковской обсерватории и расположенный в 30°19′34″ к востоку от Гринвича, был нулевым меридианом российской картографии. Малый базис - это две точки на земной поверхности, координаты которых максимально точно установлены. Затем координаты точек передаются на государственную геодезическую сеть России.
