The Trail was once part of the Susquehanna & Western RR. The abandoned run was purchased in 1962 by the City of Newark and converted to a public hiking trail. Currently, the trail covers Warren and Sussex counties at a length of 27 miles where you can still find some artifacts that supported the old railroad: six foundations of the original nine creameries and ice houses that serviced the railroad, numerous station foundations, eight railroad bridges, cattle passes, battery boxes, whistle and mileage markers.
