The River Drowes extends from Lough Melvin at Lareen to the Sea Pools near Tullaghan just outside the town of Bundoran and spans an area of about 5 miles in total. It is one of Ireland's premier Spring and Summer Salmon Fisheries and in addition holds good stocks of wild brown trout. It has accounted for the first recorded Irish Salmon of the season caught on rod and line on numerous occasions over the past 20 years.
Four Masters Bridge is one of the main fishing areas on the Drowes. The monument on the bridge is to commemorate the "The Annals of the Four Masters", which was a written history of Ireland up to 1616. The river is the border between counties Donegal and Leitrim.
To get to the cache you will have to approach from the North East side as the bridge is presently closed for repair after being damaged by the winter flooding. Follow your GPS down the lane and on to the cache.
Please take care and always use common sense when near water, especially with children.
Depending on the time of year, there may be a few fishermen Muggles, so please be stealthy when finding and replacing!
This cache and the three others on the "Drowes Salmon Run" are dedicated to my late grandfather Jim Daly who loved this area of North Leitrim and was very active in the Drowes and Lough Melvin fisheries.
The cache is a medium size clear lunchbox. It is large enough for trackables. Please replace carefully and as you found it.
We hope you enjoy this area and of course the hunt for the cache!
