7.15. Archive or unarchive a geocache
Archiving a geocache is meant to be a permanent action. Only community volunteer reviewers and Geocaching HQ can unarchive caches. This is done only in rare circumstances and only if the cache meets the current geocaching guidelines.

If a cache is archived by a reviewer or staff for lack of maintenance, it will not be unarchived.

Geocache Description:

Less than a 1 km walk from car park.

Welcome to one of the many gorgeous Kangaroo Island beaches. This may require crossing over the South West River depending on tides and time of year, but it should always be possible (you may need to roll up your trousers!)  The cache is placed a short distance along the walk from Hanson Bay to Kelly Hill Caves which is a 9km trek if you feel like a longer walk!. At least consider continuing a further 3kms to find the Grassdale cache - an easy walk although you may have to wade through some water at certain times of the year. Container is a medium sized Sistema painted gray. This is not a park and grab - spend some time to enjoy the beach and scenery.

Hanson Bay is located in the Cape Bouguer Wilderness Area. Threatened Hooded Plovers are beach nesting birds that breed between September and April. They use a shallow scrape in the sand for a nest, usually above the high water mark or near the foredune. The nests and eggs are extremely well camouflaged and at risk from vehicles, dogs and other recreation on the beach as well as natural threats such as storm surges, extreme weather and native predators. Please walk along beaches below the high water mark and stay off the dunes to try to minimise disturbance to this vulnerable species. Dogs and vehicles are prohibited in the Cape Bouguer Wilderness Protection Area, from the park boundary to the east of the Southwest River. The park may be closed on days of heightened fire danger or for feral animal control operations. Cache placed with permission from The Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources.
