Located just inside Wickford Memorial Park a “heroes arboretum” has been created in memory of the soldiers who lost their lives during the First World War.
Planted in 2012, the arboretum has a tree planted for each of the battles or campaigns where a Wickford man fell. Included are some of the wars most important battles - the Somme, Ypres, Mesopotamia, Palestine and Gallipoli. There is also a tree planted representing those who died in the UK of their wounds and one representing the families of those that were affected.
The cache can be accessed from outside the park if the gates are shut but if possible please take time to admire these beautiful trees and reflect on the reason they are there.
