Das Gut, wie es heute bewirtschaftet wird, entstand im Laufe hunderter Jahre durch den Tausch und Kauf von Wald- und Wiesenflächen. Bereits 1718 ließ Erzbischof Franz von Harrach das Jägerhaus am See erbauen. Bis 1803 blieb es im Besitz der Salzburger Erzbischöfe und wurde anschließend von wechselnden Landesherren verwaltet. 1894 wurde das Gut an Max Baron Imhof verkauft und kam so in Privatbesitz. 1927 wurde das Gut von Graf Felix Droste zu Vischering von Nesselrode-Reichenstein aus der Eifel gekauft und noch heute ist es im Besitz seiner Familie. Die Familie Nesselode führt den Jagd- und Fischereibetrieb und legt größten Wert darauf, dass die Einzigartigkeit und Ursprünglichkeit des Jägersees erhalten bleibt.

The land as it's farmed today, arose from centuries of swapping and buying forest and fields. In 1718 Archbishop Franz von Harrach commissioned the building of a hunting lodge by the lake. It remained under ownership of the Salzburg Archbishops until 1803 whereafter it was managed by changing provincial lords. In 1894 the estate was sold to Max Baron Imhof and became privately owned. In 1927 the estate was bought by Count Felix Droste zu Vischering von Nesselrode-Reichenstein from the Eifel and is still owned by the family today. The family Nesselode runs the hunting and fishing business and set a high value on maintaining the distinctive character and simplicity of the Jägersees lake.
