Casa Bals-Sturdza, in forma de astazi, dateaza din prima jumatate a secolului al XIX-lea si a apartinut lui Iordache Bals incepand din 1842. Sapaturile arheologice efectuate cu prilejul restaurarilor din anii 2000-2003 arata insa ca edificiul intial era mult mai vechi.
De altfel, o placa de marmura amplasata in stanga usii de intrare consemneaza faptul ca aici a locuit între 1796 si 1803 marele carturar grec, prieten al romanilor, D. Philippide.
Din 1852 in aceasta cladire a functionat Banca Moldovei, iar mai tarziu Primaria Iasului. In februarie 1863, Titu Maiorescu (critic literar si politician roman) inaugureaza aici prelectiunile Junimii.
Incepand din 1914 in aceasta casa s-a aflat sediul Bancii Nationale a Romaniei din Iasi, iar dupa al Doilea Razboi Mondial a ajuns in posesia Postei Romane.

Bals-Sturdza House, in form today, dates from the first half of the nineteenth century and belonged to Iordache Bals since 1842. Excavations carried out under restoration in the years 2000-2003 shows however that original building was much older.
Moreover, a marble plaque placed on the left entrance door say that the great Greek scholar, D. Philippide, lived there between 1796 and 1803.
Since 1852 in this building functioned Bank of Moldova, and later Hall of Iasi. In February 1863.
Since 1914 this house was the headquarters of the National Bank of Romania in Iasi, and after World War II came into possession of the Romanian Post.
