From this spot you can see the memorial for Michael Thies. I never met him during his short 43 years, but I know his parents and others who respected him. From this spot you can see that on the memorial plaque.
Michael himself had been a member of the Ruma village board. He died from carbon monoxide poisoning in May 2008 while camping near the Indianapolis Motor Speedway before the Indy 500. Emissions had entered his RV overnight through open vents while he and other family members were sleeping.
