O miejscu:
Oko Saurona lub Bursztynowa Brama, to wiadukt nad Trasą W-Z oddany do użytku w 2001 roku. Według założeń konstruktorów, projekt ma imitować bursztyn wynurzający się z morza i stanowić bursztynową bramę dla wjeżdżających do Gdańska.
Cały wiadukt podświetlony jest w kolorze niebieskim co imituje morze, pylon podświetlony jest na kolor bursztynowy, a liny podtrzymujące pomost są iluminowane kolorem pomarańczowym.
Historia nazwy Oko Saurona jest o tyle ciekawa, że niewiele brakowało a wiadukt rzeczywiście zostałby tak nazwany! Do projektu pozytywnie nastawiony był sam Prezydent Gdańska Paweł Adamowicz, który stworzył nawet na Facebooku ankietę, pytając o ocenę propozycji. Niestety, pomimo poparcia gdańskich radnych, projekt gdzieś przepadł i wiadukt pozostał Bursztynową Bramą. Dla "lokalsów" jednak, na zawsze pozostanie on Okiem Saurona :)

About this spot:
The Sauron's Eye, or the Amber Gate, is the name of a viaduct over the W-Z main road. It was constructed in 2001 and, according to the designers' idea, it depicts an amber emerging from the sea and so becoming an “amber gate” for people approaching the town of Gdansk.
At night the viaduct is floodlit with blue lights (sea-like), the pylon with an amber colour and the ropes supporting the viaduct with with an orange colour.
The story behind the name is quite interesting. The Sauron's Eye is not an official name, despite many votes. On Facebook the inhabitants of Gdansk supported the idea but, in the end, the official name remained the Amber gate.
I would recommend a night visit, as you will be rewarded by this delightful illumination.
