R is for Rum A favorite drink of pirates, who were not known to be especially picky about their alcohol. Rum was originally called “rumbullion” and was also called “kill devil.” It was and still is made by distilling sugar-cane residues or molasses. Pirates don't care what rum is made out of, they only care when they run out of it.
