Rue is also known as Ruta and is a genus of strongly scented evergreen shrubs that range from 20-60 cm in height. There are between 8 and 40 species known in the genus. The most well-known is Ruta graveolens, rue or common rue. The shrubs have yelloe flowers with 4-5 petals each. Extracts from this plant have been used to treat eyestrain, sore eyes and as an insect repellent.
