Geocache Description:

'Up with the Eagles' in other words. As you might have guessed from the title, this cache is aiming to teach you some of the language of the local Aboriginal language. This cache was inspired by a nearby Aboriginal site which you may find very interesting. As you may or may not know, the tribe that lived in the Bouddi National Park were the Darkinjung tribe who were actually caretakers of the land for another tribe Guringai. For more information on this interesting topic, have a look at

An easy crossword puzzle is the puzzle for you to solve. It will require you to search the internet to search for the meaning of Aboriginal place names on the Central Coast. You must also remember that the spelling of these places is a European interpretation as the Aboriginals of this area did not have an alphabet like ours.

Once you have filled out the crossword puzzle you will need to answer some questions which will make up the coordinates.

The trail head can be found at :

S 33 3A.BCD
E151 2E.FGH

A=Number of times the letter ‘F’ is in the puzzle
B=Number of words that begin with ‘K’
C=Number of words that end with an ‘A/ah’ sound -2
D=Number of ‘oo’ sounds in the crossword
E=Number of ‘H’s
F=Number of places on the crossword that are further south than ‘The place of sleep’
G=Number of ‘M’s + number of ‘N’s. Then divide by 2
H=Number of ‘a’s -5

*Update January 2015: The wonderful Gosford city council in their ultimate wisdom and great inititive have decided to remove this site. I hope they will put it back up, but knowing our excellent proactive council it will take numerous years for that to happen. Thankfully I have found this site (visit link) which covers almost all the names. I have added a couple of extra hints for the ones which are not on the new site as you will need to do a little research of your own to find them.*

Once you have these values you can go to the trail head. From here, go up past the gate, and then turn left at every intersection that you come to. To find the final cache subtract 260 from the decimal part of the southing, and subtract 29 from the decimal part of the easting. The cache is a 1L Sistema hidden in a rather tricky spot. The cache is on TOP of the edge of a small cliff so please be careful. Remember to bring some water to drink

Happy caching!
