Don't hesitate to email me via the link on my Profile if you have any questions. [red]Please be sure to include the cache name and GC Code, or better yet, the URL of the cache page.[/red]

Cache
The cache is a micro so you will need to bring something to write with. The kids will be excited to know who finds this cache so any photos of anything to do with America will be gleefully received :)

Location
This is our third cache, being from Blighty this is our first international cache yee haw :) I visit San Francisco regularly on business (with colleagues and family ready to maintain this cache too). I enjoy finding these parks, hidden amongst buildings. Whilst searching for nearby caches to bag, I spotted this hidden park - the name made it stand out on the map ..but little did I know this park's significance to the 'modern world'.

Dot com ground-zero
Astonishingly this park and surrounding buildings are considered ground-zero for the original dot-com boom in the 90s, with many of the famous startups beginning life here. I couldn't believe it's significance, the more I researched South Park. Several of the original companies still reside here and of late many have moved offices back here. The start-ups I worked for back in the 90s were inspired by the original companies based here. The start-up I now work for is based close-by, I can't help but feel a bit of pride at all of these facts!

The dot com boom can hardly be mentioned without reference to its equally impressive and rapid decline. The significance of these companies isn't in doubt and I would have thought there is an argument that says that the hysteria was inevitably going to end, having to get worse to get better - a self-leveling exercise - the bubble had to burst for the modern Internet world to become what we now know.

South Park (TV) (IMDB)
This park's namesake, in the shape of a TV show, was first aired during the same era as the dot com boom. Seeing as the park has it's origins as far back as the 1800s I doubt there is any link :)

South Park (from: park's website)
Escape from the office to this tree-lined oval garden, a welcoming, sunny spot in the heart of SOMA. Cafes and restaurants on the park’s perimeter draw in neighborhood workers, who fill up the picnic tables and benches at lunchtime.

Recent park improvements include native plantings, a hummingbird garden and two fenced play areas, with sand pits and climbing structures to entertain small tots.

Established in 1852, South Park was originally conceived as a London-style city garden, ringed with upscale residences. Much later, this spot became ‘ground zero’ for the 1990s dot-com boom, and is still a much-coveted business address.

Seeking
1. Find the park sign.
2. Stand facing it.
3. Smile at the toy dogs :)
--Spend a little time to absorb the history here.
--Bide your muggle-free time by grabbing a bite to eat at a nearby cafe, thanks for the tip @jeremiahsjohnson (FTF)
4. To the right of the park sign is a tree... (Improved instruction --Thanks again to @jeremiahsjohnson for the feedback :)

Access and Availability
The park is well used by muggles and has opening times that are kept up-to-date on the park's website although I got the feeling it was always open. The cache is located at head-height (around 6ft) so long legs might be needed if you are smaller :) Both the location and cache placement are very exposed - it goes without saying, take care retrieving and placing this micro to minimize the chance of muggle discovery!

*I hope to upgrade this cache to a bigger size and 'more relevant' container to mark the site's significance.

Happy hunting :)
