Geocache Description:

I have strong connections to the Longton area as I spent a lot of my childhood here visiting my Grandparents, who had lived here for as long as I can remember. I wanted to place a cache in the area to give me a reason to still come to the area, so have placed this close by to where they used to live.

The Cache is a container with a log book. BYOP Longton is an old village that is slowly becoming modernised. There is Booths supermarket and a few other shops and eating out places. There are also some pretty decent. The Marsh and the Longton Brick croft are close by. Longton Marshes are a large area of marshland to the west of Longton lying at the confluence of the Rivers Douglas and Ribble which is now part of the Ribble Link. It is the natural home for a large variety of visiting and indigenous wildfowl. The 70 mile Ribble Way footpath starts at the Dolphin Inn, once owned by the Holmes family, on the edge of the marsh and follows its edge before joining the Ribble. Longton Brick Croft. This Wetland Nature Reserve situated off Liverpool Road in the Village of Longton, covers over 11 hectares (27 acres), and has a visitor centre, picnic area and free car park. This site of local conservation importance is a managed reserve on the site of the former Bentley Brick works. A wide range of wildlife can be observed from the pathways including a changing population of birds that enjoy the habitat of the south lake. The visitor centre contains informative displays on the site's history and the wildlife you can find there.
