Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden at the entrance to the TR1 "Main Cave", there is no need to go into the cave to find this cache. Main Cave is One of many caves located in Isaacs Creek Valley near Timor, NSW. It is a fairly tough walk from the second campsite, almost to the top of the ridge, the entrance can be hard to find as there are a few tracks that take you in the wrong direction.

Timor Caves are a declared public reserve and don't require a permit or cost anything to visit, however there are no guides, steps or lights in the caves, nor are there signs pointing the way to the entrances. So be sure to bring a good torch or headlamp for each person and a little sense of adventure if you plan to explore the caves. Unfortunately There is a lot of vandalism within the caves now, both from people tagging their visit and from people carelessly breaking features or even breaking them on purpose to take home as souvenirs. Please try to be careful and do not vandalise the caves, otherwise the caves may eventually be closed to public access and we won't be able to continue to enjoy them. It takes a long time for the features in the cave to form. If you do choose to explore Main Cave, someone has kindly donated an aluminium ladder to help you climb down the entrance, but it's only held in place with some cheap nylon rope, so be sure to check it is stable before using it. Within the Main Cave is also the signature of an F Ward, it's been said that this is the signature of Frederick Wordsworth Ward, an Australian Bushranger also known as Captain Thunderbolt (1835–25 May 1870) who was known for escaping Cockatoo Island. He was also the longest roaming bushranger in Australian history and it's believed he used caves all across the areas he visited to live and hide from the police. Captain Thunderbolt was known to have roamed from across the Hunter region to Queensland and as far west as Bourke. Two other good caves to visit in this area are TR2 "Belfry Cave" and TR4 "Helictite Cave" both of which can be accessed from the first campsite. The walk to these caves is a lot shorter and the caves are easier to find.
