The Kansas City and Cameron Railroad, or the Cannon Ball Railroad as it was locally known, played a great part in the development of Holt and Kearney. In years past, as many as fifty to sixty trains a day came through Holt and Kearney on their way to the markets in Chicago and Kansas City. While the railroad no longer goes through Holt, evidence of its old railroad beds remain.
The cache contains further description of the old railroad that passed through the area and the significane it had at making Kansas City the center for western Missouri versus St. Joseph. Additional information about the train wreck in 1910 that occurred about 1/4 mile away.
