An exciting visit to the lugubrious and abandoned Hotel Eremo, once a famous resting spot for visitors to the Grand Tour to Mount Vesuvius.

The Hotel Eremo is located on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius, near the Vesuvius Observatory, next to the Chapel of the Salvatore, protected by the volcano from Colle Umberto.

Before it was built the hotel, in this place, it is said there was a hermit inn adjoining the church who cooked omelettes and Lacryma Christi and offered to tourists who ventured Mount Vesuvius and it is believed that the name " Eremo " may derive from this story.

The hotel was built in 1902 by John Mason Cook, who was a very special entrepreneur known for having conceived and implemented the railway connecting Naples and Vesuvius.
The hotel was basic economic activity of the Railroad, as induced people even those who could not afford prolonged physical effort to visit Vesuvius and not only because the location and the view were so beautiful that it was worth staying just for that.
The hotel was in a prime location for many reasons: first was halfway between Naples and Sorrento, two important tourist destinations in the beginning of the twentieth century, then from its terrace you can see the entire bay, from Capri to Monte di Procida, the islands and the big cities Vesuviane at his feet, it was in close proximity to the railway station was then a resting spot for visitors to the Grand Tour to Mount Vesuvius.
The eruption of 1944 severely damaged the railway line which was supplied by the hotel, so after several transfers to private entities and then to the hotel first became a hotbed for clandestine love affairs, and was subsequently handed over to his fate abandonment since 1994.

The hotel is easily accessible from the street: you can enter with your car and park it inside because the gate is open; the first thing you meet in the parking is a statue of a Christ that welcomes you with open arms.

It is a beautiful place but the locals are crumbling and devastated;
there are many inscriptions on the walls, the windows are broken, also some fires were started and going up to the first floor there are large spaces, perhaps dining halls or ballrooms, overlooking the beautiful terrace with a unique view.
There are many holes in the floor that are hazardous, damage directly downstairs, the staircase has no railings and stairs are not in the best condition possible.
From the first floor there is also a second entrance from the street behind the hotel.
You can visit the terrace with great view of the Gulf of Naples.
At second floor there are thirty-two rooms: all of them are devastated by vandals, there are still some with the services and the beds, in the others there is nothing more.
Some rooms are small, some others very large, there is some carpet, in other of the beautiful tiles with curious designs.

There are signs everywhere of pseudo séances with candles, inverted crosses and several writings on the wall, but they seem more of the writing made by kids to feel adults rather than real satanic rituals.

From the second floor you can access the attic with iron staircase; the attic is preserved very well and it is not devasted.
