Geocache Description:

**DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS CACHE FROM HWY 11**

A quick drive up cache on a forgotten alignment of highway 11. Bring your own pen/pencil.

The Middle Crossroad was established in 1843 along a former Indian trail. It was one of three routes to connect Barrie and Orillia; along with Upper Crossroad and Ridge Road. Highway 11 was planned as a trunk road to create a continuous route from Toronto to North Bay. For the portion between Barrie and Orillia, Middle Crossroad was chosen to carry traffic. In 1960, due to increased cottage traffic, the decision to widen the road to 4 lanes resulted in the abandonment several sections of the former two lane highway. Thus, Ross Road was created. We placed this cache to give this former faithful highway a little recognition. You'll see the old concrete, banked road bed; this road is not maintained in the winter, yet the cache will still be accessible. Should be a quick find off the old road. **THIS IS NOT ACCESSIBLE FROM HWY 11** Take care with children or pets, as you will be close to the new highway at the end of the Ross Rd. You are looking for a small camo container. Small prize for the FTF; happy caching! CONGRATULATIONS to Sadanah for the FTF!
