Francis Point Provincial Park
The Park protects a rare and important piece of pristine waterfront on the Francis Peninsula, west of Madeira Park on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia. This extremely fragile and sensitive ecosystem combines the scenic and ecological attributes that have made the Georgia Straight world famous. Intricate coves, wind swept pines, mossy headlands and old growth fir trees trying very hard to survive in this tough ecosystem. The 81 hectare park is a combination of forest uplands and open mossy spaces well suited for ecologically cautious hiking. The whole Pender Harbour area is a great place for exploring by kayak, canoe or in a small boat.
There are, counting these caches, six in the park. From the parking lot to the waterfront is a couple of hundred meters, from there the trail heads left or right. Right takes you to a small hill 50/60 meters above sea level with one cache on that short trail. Left; takes you out to the Francis Pen light, which is about 1.5 km each way. It always takes me an hour or 2 or 3 because the views keep getting in the way. This trail is fairly easy with not much elevation change. Not wheel chair or bike accessible. At the light there is a very beautiful large grove of Arbutus trees. The hike is worth while just to see the trees.
PLEASE STAY ON THE TRAIL
