Geocaching In Space
US Astronaut Rick Mastracchio is heading to the International Space Station on the morning of 7/11/13, taking off from Kazakhstan. He is taking with him a Travel Bug that he will use as a tool to teach students on Earth, in his home state of Connecticut, about geography and science, and while he is onboard he can claim a find on the elusive cache.
He will spend six months onboard, hardly a park and grab, orbiting the earth 16 times a day. We won't be able to catch a sighting round the time of event but if you visit http://spotthestation.nasa.gov/ you can find information on sighting times for your area. If you are looking out for the ISS in the night sky you will see a bright light move across the sky from the south west to the north east.
Meet up at the location at 7:30pm for 15 minutes of geobanter, a space related quiz with a special prize and a group photo. Anyone interested can join us at a local cafe for some space related geochat and some special treats.
“Exploration is in our nature. We began as wanderers, and we are wanderers still. We have lingered long enough on the shores of the cosmic ocean. We are ready at last to set sail for the stars.” ― Carl Sagan, Cosmos
Anyone attending an event on the 6th or 7th of November 2013 will receive a special Geocaching In Space Souvenir
