Geocache Description:

The Winter Fury series will be traditional micro containers, but with one unique, yet OPTIONAL, challenge...

TO SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE THIS CHALLENGE (OPTIONAL):

1. You will need to find the container and sign the log WHILE it is between the range of -30 degrees celsius and... god forbid - lower.

2. Take a picture of yourself with the placed thermometer at ground zero.

3.(Optional) Submit a screenshot of Environment Canada's weather data.

Congratulations to these cachers who have completed the challenge! (These cachers included a picture which is requirement 2. of the challenge) AlsT1910a, gr8pix, Ma and Pa B -Seriously, lots of respect to these cachers for finding this one. Here's hoping they didn't lose any digits!

This is it - the final challenge. Even in December, and January, the average low hovers around -20. Although you can find this any time of the year - to properly complete this challenge, you will need to venture out on one of the coldest, most miserable days of the year, when everyone else is huddled around fires and furnaces with blankets and hot cups of coco.

I am not that evil, so I made this a park and grab, although you may need to walk in about 50 or so meters from Courtney St. if the side road is covered with snow.

Did you know......?

Take the number on the sign you see, make it negative, and subtract 9.2. That's the coldest temperature ever recorded on Earth. Can you even imagine.

Did you know.......?

The coldest inhabited place on Earth is a village named Oymyakon in Northeastern Sakha, Russia. In Oymyakon it sometimes happens that the average minimum temperature for January, February and December remains below −50 °C (−58 °F). Sometimes summer months can also be quite cold, but June and July are the only months where temperature has never been dropped below −10 °C (14 °F). Oymyakon and Verkhoyansk are the only two permanently inhabited places in the world that have recorded temperatures below −60 °C (−76 °F) for every day in January.

Read all about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oymyakon

Good luck, and for your safety, dress as warm as you possibly can. Even signing the cache while exposed can be dangerous at this temperature. Get back inside your vehicle, and keep your fingers frostbite free! Batteries drain fast in this weather, so be prepared to have low battery indicators on your camera as you take the picture.
