In a rural community, the public library is an invaluable resource for communication as well as learning and entertainment. Public Internet via the Library brings the world to farm and forest folks who literally have no options for home connection. Galeton’s historic library is a gem among its kind, small but offering services, programs, and selection many larger towns can’t equal.
Fundraising to open a library here began in 1903, and the first Librarian, Anne Belle Palmer, was appointed and a room provided in 1907; there were 85 books. Galeton’s one-room library grew slowly, moving from one building to another, until in the 1990’s plans were made for it to have its own premises. The current building, in the center of the town’s park, was opened in 2005. It has become the heart of the town, a social and activity center as well as a resource for learning, communication, and entertainment.
Darlene, the current Librarian, is proud of her fine and historic institution, and invites cachers to come on in and admire it.

CONGRATULATIONS A2G on the FTF!
