A (hopefully) quick roadside cache just outside Patensie in the beautiful Gamtoos Valley
The Gamtoos Valley is a beautiful area just east of the Baviaanskloof Wilderness area. The Gamtoos is often referred to as the food basket of the Eastern Cape and produces mainly citrus but also many vegetables like potatoes, cabbage, cucumbers, carrots and many more. Its also a tobacco producing area although this has declined drastically in the last decade. One of Port Elizabeth's main water supply dams, the Kouga Dam, is also located in the valley with the farms making use of its water for irrigation as well. We like to visit the valley a couple of times a year and when we stay over we stay in our good friend Nichola's cottage just outside Patensie. The cache is placed by the entrance to their farm.
