United States Traditional Cache
drjeff2011: Out to look here on a beautiful spring afternoon with Smokey the dog in tow and came up empty. After 10 years, this old girl must be retired. Hope it's namesake isn't finished, too, but the signs aren't good. God have mercy.

Designed to challenge even the hard-core cachers, this one resides in Washington Valley Park, Bridgewater, NJ, right on the yellow perimeter trail in the northeastern corner of the park. Park in the lot.
Being somewhat of a sentimental fool, I wondered what I would name my 50th hidden cache? Well, we have 50 states in these United States so that will do. And, since it's my golden anniversary of sorts, I placed a gold dollar coin with U.S. Grant on the inscription. I suspect that the FTF will feel he deserved his booty here. If it's easier than anticipated, I'll happily drop the difficulty level; it is, after all, my first "five!"
What can I say about the United States in 2013? We are a highly polarized, dysfunctional lot with almost no civil dialogue or debate on any of the many serious problems facing us. Geocaching is a pleasant diversion from the rancor and uselessness of partisan politics.
We still have much to be proud of: we feed the world with rich, productive farmland; we won the Cold War; our shores welcomed untold millions looking for a better life. Our military, in which I served, is second to none. But can 17 trillion dollars EVER be paid back? I suspect not.
Enough of that. That's not why you're reading this!
Anyway, enjoy this--if you can--and give yourself a real "Atta Boy!" if you earn a smiley. Hey, if you can find a "five" then maybe our nation's problems can be solved, too!
