Castle Rose Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Bunjil: Unfortunately, I cannot see any information that indicates that steps have been taken to resolve the issue/s associated with this placement. Therefore as advised previously, the cache is being de-listed (Archived) to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

The Geocache Maintenance guideline explains what needs to happen with a Disable cache.

Caches that have been archived for lack of maintenance will not be unarchived. This is explained in the Help Center article here.

If you wish to contact me please send an email via my profile - Bunjil, and quote the cache name and GC number.

Geocache Description:

This micro can be found in the area of Castle Rose, along Buff Point Ave, Buff Point.

You can come here during the day, but I like it down here at night better.

NOTE: Cache is not hidden in the castle or anywhere within the fenced area. This is private property. I recommend you stay out for the obvious legal reasons well as for the fact that the building is unstable in some parts.

Bill Muncke built this for his wife, whom he considered his queen. And what better house for a queen to live in but a castle. This castle was unfortunately doomed to never be completed.

In 1947 Bill started construction of Castle Rose.  He would come up on Saturday with a load of bricks and cement brought in by ferry and work all weekend, sleeping in a weekender he constructed on the property.  It was a daunting task for one man, but his love for his wife was his motivation.

After a few years, he wife became sick and sadly passed away. Bill, stricken with grief, simply just stopped.  From that day on, not one more brick was laid and the building was left unfinished. Soon Bill passed as well, sealing the fate of Castle Rose forever.

Now, more than sixty years later Castle Rose still stands, fenced off, falling apart and vandalised, a testament to one mans love for his wife.

GZ is in a fairly high muggle area (morning walks) so some steath will be required. I gave it the 2.5 difficulty because of this.

Cache is a micro about the size of a film canister but has a screw on/off lid. Please careful of the "camo" when removing or replacing the lid. Contains only a log, please BYO pen or pencil. Thanks.

NOTE: To my knowledge most of the this story is correct (albeit a little dramatised at some points) but if you are aware of any mistakes or other facts that I should add in please let me know.
