Blast off! Geocaching is heading back into space. Astronaut Rick Mastracchio is heading to the International Space Station carrying a very special travel bug. TB5JJN1 will accompany Rick on his 6 month journey as he plans to use the travel bug as a tool to teach students on Earth. The mission is currently scheduled to launch from Kazakhstan at 4.08 GMT on November 7th (3.08pm 7/11 ACT time).

As this is a real rocket launch it could be delayed but Groundspeak will be awarding a "Geocaching in Space Souvenir" for every Geocacher who attends a Geocaching event on November 6 or 7 2013. So a very good reason to have an event to wish Rick Mastracchio and the Travel Bug a successful launch.
This Canberra event is being held at the site of the remains of the Canberra Observatory and Dome / Downer Club - i.e. the sign.
We will start gathering at 6pm (3 hours after the planned launch time) for roll call at 6.30pm with trackable discovery/grabs and pathtag swaps to follow. There are no facilities at the GZ so you might want to make plans to reassemble at a nearby restaurant to continue catch-ups after the event.
For those of you who are looking for an opportunity to dress-up, feel free to attend in costume or space themed attire.
Please post a 'Will Attend' log if you can make this event. In case of bad weather - watch this space - I will post a note advising an indoor location.
