Geocache Description:

Part of a triplet package of easy caches. If you park in either of the Thatcher Street carparks (entrance from Heads Rd on one side and Carson St on the other side) you can walk to all three caches. If it’s not the sort of day for walking, you can drive to the other two, but to be surprised you have to climb the hill.

The park is named after Mr Lundon who collected Customs Revenue for the city in the 1800’s.

“The many friends of Mr David Lundon, who for nearly fourteen years has filled the position of Collector of Customs in Wanganui, will learn with much pleasure that he has been promoted to the head of the Customs at Auckalnd. Mr Lundon is one of the oldest Customs officers in New Zealand, and his record is a good one, as during the past quarter of a century he has saved the country ten times the amount of his salary by his never tiring watchfulness and successful exertions to put down smuggling, and illicit distillation within his official district. No doubt, in protecting the revenue he has made enemies and this is a strong proof in itself of his good services, but we are sure the bulk of those who had had official business with Mr Lundon will endorse our assertion that he always performed his very onerous and at times difficult duties with great tact and unquestioned fairness.
